New window blind safety test launces online

FOCUS ON PRICATE RENTAL PROPERTIES

Three of the last five fatal accidents involving blind cords and chains have occurred in rental properties.  The make it safe website includes specific guidance for residential landlords and a new video too.

ONLINE RETAILERS WITH OVERSEAS SUPPLIERS

Any retailer based in the UK – or a UK – based importer MUST comply with the standards.  Some general online websites match a UK consumer with a non-UK supplier.  In these instances, the consumer is the importer, so the safety standards do not apply.  UK regulators have no jurisdiction over non- UK based suppliers dealing with consumers in this way.

The BBSA has a posted warning on the Make it Safe website to check that the blinds they intend to buy are safe.
CHILD SAFETY WEEK 2023

The child Accident Prevents Trusts (CAPT) annual child safety week, supported by the BBSA, will take place from June -5-11.
